We continue our look at Alabama with a look at freshman wide receiver Calvin Ridley a player Michigan State will need to keep an eye on.

This time last year Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley was the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation at the high school level. Now he'll look to help the Crimson Tide beat Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl. Spartan Digest continues our look at the Spartans next opponent.

Calvin Ridley 13 75 893 11.9 5 81 68.7

True freshman who entered Alabama as a high recruit making an immediate impact on the field as the Crimson Tides leading receiver in only ten starts.  Makes the big play as 15 of his catches have gone for 15-plus yards, including all five scores.  Will look to stretch the field especially if Michigan State looks to force Jake Coker to throw the ball.

WHAT MICHIGAN STATE MUST DO AGAINST RIDLEY

Who will the Spartans line up on Ridley?  Arjen Colquhoun may get the first chance being a fifth-year senior.  Darian Hicks played well down the stretch despite the big pass play given up against Iowa.  But don’t be surprised if the Spartans look to double on Ridley at times with Demetrious Cox from his safety spot.

Ridley posted three 100-yard plus games this season but no multiple touchdown games.  While he’s a major talent in the making, he’s not the polished receiver some may think.  The three 100-yard receiving games each had one play that was 50 or more yards making the rest of his game average.  Can he burn the Spartans?  Yes, he has the ability to make one giant play that could change how the Spartans look to attack the Crimson Tide offense.  But Ridley is not alone as sophomore Ardarius Stewart posted 600 yards receiving with four touchdowns.
