Spartans continue to roll in recruits

Over the weekend, MSU was busy locking up some investments for its future. Three high school players from Michigan verballed to the Green and White, and another from Maryland will be on his way to East Lansing.

Joining Detroit DePorres' cornerback Eric Hines are: offensive lineman Luis Fonseca, wide receiver/defensive back Carl Grimes and wide receiver Richard Abney. By locking up these four players over the weekend the Spartan class of 2004 has already doubled.

Fonseca, who is originally from Brazil,is currently playing ball in Wixom, Mich. Fonseca stands 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 275 pounds. Fonsceca chose MSU over Akron and Toledo.

Grimes is a teammate of Hines and he has the one thing MSU coach John L. Smith loves -- speed. Grimes has 4.4 speed and rushed for 800 yards had 935 yards receiving last season. In 2002 he was selected to the all-state team. The 5-foot-9 receiver/defensive back chose the Spartans over Virginia Tech, Florida State and Iowa.

Abney comes from Forestville, Md., and he also brings quickness. Abney is 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds and like Grimes has 4.4 speed. Last season he caught just 21 passes, put took 11 of them for scores.
