Official visits take on different meanings for all high school prospects. For Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty lineman A.J. Arcuri, his visit to Michigan State was about reconnecting with future teammates and coaches.
“It was awesome and I had a great time,” said Arcuri. “The biggest thing was getting up there and being able to handout with the coaches and my future teammates and just strengthening our relationships.”
One person Arcuri got to spend time with was the Spartans newest pledge.
“I got to spend time with Luke Campbell,” he said. “He’s from Olentangy, one of our rivals. So I spent some time with him and just about everyone. I think it’s fun and feel it builds a strong chemistry as we’ve already got that background and kind of know each other already.
Did the 6-foot-6, 265-pound Arcuri find any surprises during his visit?
“It was pretty much all that I expected it to be,” he said. “Cole Chewins was my host and we talked about football a little bit. He said to just come in with a positive attitude and just try to get better as everything will be alright and your experience will be better. He also said don’t come in feeling entitled.”
With his parents and older sister along for the visit, Arcuri said everyone had a great time.
“They all enjoyed the visit too and had a great time,” he continued. “All the coaches were great and very welcoming. The basketball game was awesome and fun.”
For the Central Ohio native the recruiting process was one that got a little stressful but ended with him finding a team that gave him a lot of great memories before arriving on campus.
“Before I committed, every day there would be a few coaches that would try and contact me on Twitter,” he explained. “So it was a big relief to have that over with as it could get a little stressful.
“I got a chance to visit Michigan State the day I committed and for their games against Oregon, Purdue, Maryland and Penn State. So I was up there a few times and just the thought of knowing that would be me someday gave me goosebumps.
“Then the win over Ohio State was great and one of the best moments especially coming from my school as everyone was giving me flack. Then, when I went back and they won it was great.
“I watched the Big Ten Championship Game at a friends house and all my friends were rooting for Michigan State.”
