Class of 2018 offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor is even more excited to visit Michigan State now that the Spartans have offered.

Sophomore offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor added an offer from Michigan State on Wednesday and is now looking even more towards his planned visit to East Lansing this weekend.

Spartan Digest spoke with Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral sophomore offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor Jr. several days ago about his interest in the Michigan State Spartans.

Wednesday afternoon, Ekiyor learned the Spartans were the latest school to jump on his recruiting bandwagon with an offer.

“Coach (Dave) Warner texted my head coach asking for me to give him a call,” said Ekiyor.  “So I called and Coach Warner put Coach (Mark) Dantonio on the phone and he extended the offer.  I’m going up this weekend to visit for their Junior Day and it should be fun.”

Now holding an offer from the Spartans, Ekiyor feels will be a good time to learn more about the Spartans.

“I was up there for a game before,” he said.  “But this time, I’ll see it from a different side as I didn’t see too much the last time I went.

“So this time I want to see more of the facilities, talk with all the coaches now that I know everybody because I now have an offer.”

With a ways to go before having to make a college decision.  What are the key things Ekiyor will be looking for in a college?

“I would say a great program, great school and great coaches,” he said.  “But in the end, it will be about what is the best situation for me.”

One thing the 6-foot-3, 315-pound lineman is learning quickly is that he has to put aside his feelings for the team he cheered for as a kid.

“I was more of an Indiana guy growing up,” he said.  “Indiana basketball, Indiana football. That was the only school I cheered for.  But now that I’m getting into the recruiting process, I’m not as biased.”

Spartan Digest will follow up with Ekiyor following his Junior Day visit this weekend.
