Spartan Digest went in depth with the newest member of the Spartans 2017 class during our one-on-one interview. However, here is some special bonus coverage and nine things you may not have known about Lombardi.
What do you like to do away from the game of football?
In the spring, summer and fall, my favorite thing to do is golf. I love golf and go out almost everyday in the summer. I play baseball as well, but when I’m not playing baseball, I’m always out on the course golfing. So that is probably my favorite thing to do with my friends.
What is the dish your mother cooks that you’re going to miss the most when you leave home?
That is a tough one. I’m a really big pasta fan. So all of her pasta dishes. But I’m really going to miss her lasagna. She makes the best lasagna and I’m really going to miss that because it is delicious.
What is the most listen to song/mp3 you’re listening to right now?
I’m not a huge music listener, so whatever is on the radio is what I listen to. Don’t listen to music as much as I should.
What type of music are you listening to?
I listen to a little bit of everything. I’ll listen to current day pop. A lot of my friends listen to rap and I’ll listen to some of their songs. Some of them are not for me, some of them are. I’ll also listen to 80s old rock in the weight room. That is kind of my thing. So a little bit of everything.
What is something your friends would be shocked to know about you?
I’m a pretty open person and I think they know most things about me. But maybe that I also like to listen to old bands, girly kind of music, choir music, show tunes… Taylor Swift is ok.
What are you currently binge watching right now?
Actually I’ve been on the Walking Dead lately. It is probably my favorite television show. My sisters are big into Netflix and sometimes I watch it with them. But if there was a show that I’m following pretty close it would be the Walking Dead.
Did you have a favorite player?
Ray Lewis has always been my favorite player growing up. I’ve been a Ravens fan because of him. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed both are great players. But I love the passion he has for the game. I love how physical he is. I love how energetic he is on the field and how great of a leader he is. Growing up I was a linebacker as well. And I just felt the style of play he had at Baltimore and also at Miami, and the swagger he had was just awesome and made me want to be just like him.
What quarterback would you say you've styled your game after?
It would be a combination of multiple people. I want to be smart like Tom Brady. I want to have an arm like Cam Newton. I want to be a leader like Peyton Manning. I want to be my own person, but I would also like to take the elements of those great players and make it into myself. But if I had to pick a top player, it would be Tom Brady.
A future Spartan picking a former Wolverine?
I was born in Ann Arbor, so I have a little bit of Michigan blood in me. My dad coached at Eastern Michigan. My brother Bo, who is named after former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler was also born in Ann Arbor. So I have a little bit of Michigan blood in me.
