Class of 2018 middle linebacker Blake Bacevich talks about his spring game visit to Michigan State.

Ohio 2018 prospect Blake Bacevich made his first college campus visit for Michigan State’s spring game. Spartan Digest caught up with the Cincinnati St. Xavier sophomore about his visit.

When you play at one of the premier high school football programs in Ohio, you learn quickly you have to wait until your number is called to get on the field.  That is the case for Cincinnati St. Xavier linebacker Blake Bacevich as the sophomore saw some reps at the varsity level while backing up a senior captain this past season.

While Bacevich could project as a middle linebacker, defensive end or even a tight end, he knows getting on a college campus gets the recruiting process started and should help him open a few eyes in the summer.

Saturday, Bacevich and his father visited the Michigan State Spartans for the Green-White game.

“It was a great day and the Michigan State campus was great,” said Bacevich.  “We got there and spoke with a couple of coaches before the spring game.  Then we watched the game and afterwards got the meal and talked with Noah Davis and Coach (Jim) Bollman who coaches the tight ends.  I also got a chance to speak with Coach (Mark) Dantonio and it was great to talk with such a successful coach.”

With Davis heading to East Lansing this summer the Spartans already have a built in recruiter at St. Xavier but Bacevich is looking forward to learning more about the Green and White from his lead recruiter.

“I also got a chance to speak with Coach (Harlon) Barnett who is the coach that recruits my school,” he said.  “He invited me to one of their senior only camps they will have this summer and said he’d be stopping by school to get more information on me.”

As for the game Bacevich was surprised to see at least one of the current Spartans on the field.

“I enjoyed watching the game and there was some good football,” he said.  “There is a lot of talent there and it was good to watch Messiah deWeaver as he was just playing at Huber Heights Wayne down by where I’m from.”

As for the facilities and campus, Bacevich was also impressed.

“The recruiting room was neat and taking the golf cart tour of campus was really cool,” he said.  “There were a lot of good things about their campus and from what I saw, everything looked really nice.”

Spartan Digest will keep an eye out for Bacevich during the summer camp season to see if he returns to camp with the Spartans in June.
