Having watched only film of the West Des Moines (IA) Valley prospect, Spartan Digest was quickly impressed watching the future Spartan in testing drills as he showed smoothed movement during testing for a player with great physical size.
The first thing that really stood out watching Lombardi run the forty-yard dash was his physical built. Lombardi is very well defined in his thigh region without being stiff. He moves freely while running and you can see he’s more than just a pretty boy quarterback prospect as many could see him also being a high level linebacker prospect.
Once out of the testing phase, Lombardi saw his arm put to the test as the day was extremely windy. In the opening drills of the day, Lombardi was placed with the win in his face and had no problem cutting through it. While other quarterbacks struggled, Lombardi showed little signs he would have issues if faced with poor weather in a game situation.
During one-on-one drills with receivers, Lombardi showed the ability to place the ball in a catchable area while also showing touch on several throws.
Overall, we came away impressed with each aspect of what is shown in this kind of setting. It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop physically as well as on the field this summer and fall.
