We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016. At No. 51 is sophomore Grayson Miller.

#51 Grayson Miller

How does a player who played in all 12 games as a true freshman come in so low in our countdown?  Simple, his future is bright but it might not be at the position that saw him on the field a season ago for the Michigan State Spartans.  Talk of a possible position move from safety to linebacker still exists with Miller and if that is the case, the fact the legacy has a redshirt year remaining could me he steps back a year from on-field activities during the 2016 season with the Spartans so deep with their linebackers.

Towards the end of the 2015 season the Spartans secondary was a MASH unit and Miller was pushed to start four games.  While Miller posted 24 tackles during the season, he will be well remembered for his role in Michigan’s botched punt attempt at the end of the Spartans and Wolverines game that ended with Jalen Watts-Jackson returning the ball 38 yards for the game-winning touchdown.  Not a bad

Miller has the talent to play at Michigan State and in the Big Ten.  He showed that a season ago and if called upon in 2016 he’ll be better prepared to do even more.  As we stated above, there could be a chance he makes a position move or gets held back to save a year.  If not, he’s sure to find time on special teams and pushing those ahead of him on the depth chart no matter what position he’s placed.
