We continue to countdown the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#45 Kevin Cronin

The Michigan State Spartans are blessed to be able to have a kickoff specialist that has performed extremely well.  Cronin averages 62 yards per kickoff for his career and last season has 23 touchbacks (16 in last seven games).  While most programs have one kicker to do it all, Cronin has allowed the Spartans to not push others into the position.

It was a banner year for Cronin with an average of 60.1 yards per kickoff.  His big game came in the Big Ten Championship Game where he averaged 64.6 yards per kickoff with three touchbacks against Iowa.

This will be Cronin’s third year as the starting kickoff specialist and for that he makes the countdown of players to watch.  While his role is limited, it can play a huge role during a game when the Spartans offense is rolling with field position.
