We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#38 Jake Hartbarger

While this might be low on our countdown, Hartbarger is a player who proved himself last season as only the third punter in the Mark Dantonio era.  Spartan Digest expect the Ohio native to be solid again this season and while he's important, other needed to be listed higher in our countdown.

Had 57 punts on the season with an average of 42.7 yards per punt.  Had no punts blocked with 17 of them going for 50-yards or more and 21 placed inside of the 20-yard line.

We value a solid punter and the Spartans have been blessed since Dantonio arrived by having some of the best in the Big Ten.  Hartbarger is in that category and should only get better.  Field position has been and always will be important for the Spartans and the Ohio native can flip the field when needed to give the Spartans defense the field position it needs to attack.
