We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#36 Monty Madaris

Coming out of high school Madaris showed all the promise of becoming a big time player at MSU.  However, he enters his senior season with seven catches during his career for 103 yards.  The tools are still there and the Cincinnati native could step forward and be a big surprise in 2016.

Played in ten games last season earning his second letter in the process.  Athletic enough that the Spartans did move him over for a little play at cornerback last season but mainly saw time on offensive and special teams.  Injuries again slowed Madaris down at the start of the season.

We’ve known Madaris since his high school days and hope his senior season is a breakout one.  If he’s healthy, Madaris could be a guy that could step forward and make some plays.  But younger players are on his heels looking to make their mark.  In the spring was listed behind R.J. Shelton at the “Z” receiver position.
