We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#35 Jamal Lyles

Lyles has been working to find his way on to field during his career and created some talk in the spring with his play at defensive end during the spring game.  Could 2016 see him make a move back to the defensive side?

Made five starts during the season enjoying a couple of solid games in the process.  Enters the season with 18 career catches for 265 yards.  But will he stay at tight end?

The Spartans have always looked to get Lyles on the field and why they moved him from defensive end to tight end at the start of the 2013 season.  Last season he played in all 14 games with five starts.  However, he raised eyebrows during the Spartans spring game with his play at defensive end and could be a player the Spartans look at going forward if needed.  The best might be still ahead for Lyles especially if he receives time at defensive end as well as tight end.
