We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#31 Raequan Williams

A lot of eyes will be watching Williams when camp opens with the departures of Damon Knox and Craig Evans since the end of the spring.  Can he step up and give the Spartans quality reps from the defensive tackle spot?

Another of a long list of players in the countdown that redshirted last season.  However, Williams will enter with the physical size to compete on the field.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 307-pounds, Williams has the size to get on the field and plug up gaps.  In the spring he faced no pressure as he was behind Knox.  Now with Knox and Evans both out of the program, Williams needs to step up his game and give the defense quality reps from the defensive tackle spot.  Development early in camp is a must and Malik McDowell needs to take the young pup under his wing.
