We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#29 Tyson Smith

The potential is there for Smith to be a really great player as he continues to build his game.  Listed as the back-up to Darian Hicks, Smith could push Hicks for the top spot and push the senior to the side.

Played in seven games as a true freshman showing signs of being a player to watch in the Spartans secondary in the years to come.

Last season was no fluke as Smith has the tools to become a really good player in the next few seasons.  Spartan Digest fully expects Smith to push Hicks for reps and maybe even a starting job.  If Hicks struggles at the field cornerback spot, look for the Spartans to turn to Smith quickly.
