We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#28 Michael Geiger

Geiger took his place in Michigan State Spartans football history with his game winning kick against Ohio State last season.  Will be a fourth-year starter for the Spartans having made 41 of his 57 career field-goal attempts.

Led Spartans in scoring with 87 points including 10 points against Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.  But received his biggest cheers when he made a game-winning 41-yard field goal as time expired against Ohio State as the Spartans snapped the Buckeyes 23-game winning streak.

In some ways you always feel the teams starting placekicker should be higher on these type of list.  However, Geiger will be expected to have his biggest season since arriving on campus.  Unless a kicker hits a game winning kick or misses a key field goal attempt, fans should not notice them much during a game.
