We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 college football season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? To remember the 1952 team coached by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named the AFCA Coach of the Year. So to start our official countdown to the season we announce the 52 most important Spartans for 2016.

#25 Chris Frey

There is no mistaking that Frey would be starting for a lot of college programs.  But don't tell Frey he's not a starter as he approaches the game as one and will continue to battle Jon Reschke for the SAM spot when camp opens. Gives the Spartans a great special teams player.

Enjoyed his best season as a Spartan with a career-high 23 tackles and should continue to play at a high level. Known to make special plays when on defense and on special teams.

Frey is an old-school type of football player Spartan fans love.  While he's still fighting to earn a starting role, he's right there pushing those in front of him and Spartan defensive coaches have no problem calling upon him.  Will get plenty of reps this season and will be expected to continue to make plays.
