Four-star cornerback Amir Riep talks about his upcoming announcement on where he'll attend college.

Before the week is out Scout four-star cornerback Amir Riep will make a life changing decision when he announces where he’ll continue his academic and athletic career. Spartan Digest spoke with Riep about his time out at The Opening and his upcoming decision.

The clock is ticking for Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain four-star cornerback Amir Riep as to where he’ll attend college.

In the past few weeks Riep looked to make on campus visits with Alabama, Michigan State and Ohio State.  However, at this time, only Ohio State will be visited as Riep is looking to attend Friday Night Lights with the Buckeyes.

As for his trip to The Opening Finals, Riep left with many great memories.

“It was great out at The Opening with a lot of great competition,” said Riep.  “I learned a lot about my footwork and about opening up and focusing on having better feet.”

As for what Riep feels he’ll remember ten years from now.  It had nothing to do with football.

“I would say I’ll remember how much fun we all had and how many smiles we had the whole time there,” he said.

Riep also had a chance to make several new friends including a possible future teammate.

“I got to know Antjuan Simmons as he was my roommate,” he said.  “It was something different, but we were on the same team so we came together and it worked out.”

As for the decision he’ll make on Saturday.  Riep said he’s ready to put the recruiting process behind him.

“I just talked with my dad that I’m ready for it to be done,” he stressed.  “It’s been really hard.  In fact, this will be up there as one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life so far.”

As for the significance of making his announcement on his birthday.  Riep feels making such a life changing decision was perfect for his 18th birthday.  It will also allow for him to focus on a goal he shares with others.

“I thought it would be a good day to do it,” he said.  “With it being a new age and a new chapter in my life.  I can also stay focused on my senior season.  I want to focus not just on my game but to help the younger players and be a leader to them.”

As for the two schools that made his final cut.  Riep gave short reasons on why he’ll become a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Michigan State Spartans 2017 recruiting class.

Ohio State – The atmosphere and the feeling I get while I’m there.  Coach (Kerry) Coombs being there and developing defensive backs and then putting them to the next level is important.

Michigan State – I get a great feeling every time I’m there.  The coaches and the whole staff take care of me well every time I’m there.  I can see how Coach (Harlon) Barnett really develops guys.  He can take two-star guys and then develop them into NFL type corners.  So I know he can develop me.

Who will Riep pick on Saturday afternoon?  Spartan Digest will be on hand for his announcement.
