Ohio 2017 corner excited by his newest offer from the Michigan State Spartans.

The lines of communication have been opened for some time between Fairfield (Ohio) defensive back Josiah Scott and Michigan State. Tuesday, Scott finally got the news he was looking for when the Spartans offered. Spartan Digest caught up with Scott about the offer and more.

One of the more under the radar prospects in Southwest Ohio in the 2017 class has been Fairfield (Ohio) cornerback Josiah Scott.

Scott, who is looking to end his recruitment before the end of the month, added an offer he’s been hoping to receive on Tuesday when the Michigan State Spartans offered.

“I’ve been to Michigan State a few times,” said Scott.  “I really got close to all the players there and also to the players that had just graduated when I visited.  I also took a one-on-one tour with Coach (Harlon) Barnett of all the facilities and met all the coaches.  I also got a chance to sit down and talk with all the coaches, even the offensive coaches and not just Coach Barnett and Coach (Mark) Dantonio.  I have had great communication with them since then.”

Scott knew up front he was a guy the Spartans liked but didn’t know if the numbers would allow them to offer.

“I would speak with Coach Barnett almost every single day since I visited,” he said.  “He told me that he wanted to coach me and wanted to offer me.  So he told me he would know more on July 25th when they came back from vacation.  So I was surprised today when he sent me a message asking me to call him because it wasn’t the 25th yet.”

While some might have gotten their feelings hurt with the delay in the offer.  Scott knew up front where he stood with the Spartans from his talk with the Spartans head coach on his last visit.

“I spoke with Coach Dantonio, for like twenty minutes the last time I was up there,” Scott explained.  “He told me how things were going and was being real with me.  He wasn’t giving me any slogans or anything.  He was just giving me the facts on where I stood.”

As for when Scott will make a decision and if the Spartans are now in the running.  He said there has been no change of plans and his parents are also excited by his new Spartans offer.

“My parents are excited and I’m excited since I heard the news,” he said.  “I’m still making my decision before the end of July.  I know I want to make my decision this month.  So it’s just a matter of do I wait until the end of the month or do it sometime this week.”

Scott plans to speak with Coach Dantonio later today.  But stressed he knows what the Spartans are capable of doing for a player with his skill set.

“What I really like about Michigan State is there have been underrated players that have gone there and developed that are now in the pros.  Darqueze Dennard, a two-star corner is a guy they developed.  He’s now in the pros and was a first-round draft pick.”
