We continue our countdown of the 52 Michigan State Spartans to watch during the 2016 season.

To remember one of the best Michigan State squads, Spartan Digest brings you our Spartan 52 for 2016. Why “52”? to remember the 1952 team coach by Clarence Lester “Biggie” Munn that went 9-0 winning a National Championship by being voted No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Munn was also named AFCA Coach of the Year.

#14 Demetrious Cox

Cox has proven to be valuable for the Spartans as he can play safety or corner if needed.  Injuries forced Cox to do both in 2015 with many feeling it hurt the Spartans overall defensive scheme with him going back and forth.  A lot will be on the line for Cox as this is the year the physical defender needs to shine for pro scouts.

Started all 14 games with eight at cornerback and six at safety.  Earned All-Big Ten third-team honors from the coaches.  Finished the season ranked fourth with a career-high 79 tackles.

Cox should be as solid as they come in 2016 as he’s played in 41 career games with 15 starts.  If the Spartans secondary can stay free of injuries, Cox could see his best year yet with solid players around him.  Has 111 career tackles and three interceptions and should be one of the top tacklers for the Spartans defense in 2016.
