Michigan State linebacker Ed Davis moved one step closer to adding an extra year in the Green and White on Thursday.

On Thursday the status of linebacker Ed Davis adding another year of eligibility was still up in the air. While Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio discussed Davis with the media, it was Thursday night when more light was shined on the subject.

If the Michigan State Spartans can get linebacker Ed Davis back for one more season the depth at linebacker would be unreal.

Thursday, Mark Dantonio gave only a brief update on the status of Davis when he talked with the media about what Davis would give the Spartans defense.

"More depth," said Dantonio.  "The guy has been a starter for us and a big-play guy for us, so I would expect him to get involved pretty quick.  Again, he has to transition back to that point."

It was last season when Davis was lost for the season when he tore his ACL in the preseason.  A three-year letterwinner, Davis maned the Sam linebacker position in 2014 and during his career he's posted 80 total tackles in 40 career games to go with 11 sacks.

Thursday marked the end of summer school at Michigan State with Davis needing to earn his final grade graduating from Michigan State.

While paperwork must still be processed by the Spartans compliance department and Davis must wait until he receives official word from the NCAA before putting on the pads, Thursday night it looked like the first step of the process was underway when it was learned Davis had earned his degree with the following tweet from a member of the Spartans defensive quality control staff.
