The 50-th anniversary of the “Game of the Century” will not have any impact on what happens between the Michigan State Spartans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday night inside Notre Dame Stadium.
Premium members and staff of Spartan Digest give their predictions for the game. Some stayed away this week with the uncertainty of what they saw the last time the Spartans took the field against Furman. But a few gave their opinions on what they feel will happen.
SPARTYJIMMY – The Spartan defense will show that they are fired up (with Ed Davis back)… Notre Dame’s secondary was suspect even before last Saturday, and it’s nicked up even more. The plays will come out in this game and the players (Madaris, Felton, Corley, Shelton, Price, Lyles, Williams, Scott, Owens, London, O’Connor, ect...) will all have to make plays! Our defense collectively is the best that Notre Dame will have seen up to this point. The turnovers and penalties have to be gone. Michigan State 42, Notre Dame 24…
AcCole - We have been in a funk for over a year now and it finally catches up to us. Our O-line gets no push, our running game stalls and we're forced to rely on the passing game and our young receivers. We get about 50 yards on the ground and about 200 yards in the air. Notre Dame goes for about 400 total yards, 150 rushing and 250 passing. Special teams will also be lopsided as ND will start at the 30 or better on almost every possession and our Spartans lose the field possession game severely. If Furman wasn't a wakeup call - this game will be. We lose 27 - 10.
I really hope I'm wrong on this one - but based on what I've seen for over a year now this is my gut feeling. GO GREEN GO WHITE.
Hannah Hultink - The game will come down to the fourth quarter. MSU linebackers Riley Bullough and Ed Davis will have career games, and the offensive will have a three back rotation rushing for at least 125 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, I think the Spartans overall will be slightly flat following the bye week and will lose a close one. 24-21 Notre Dame.
Dave Berk – Defense will have to be the name of the game for Michigan State against the Irish and while we don’t know how much of a role Ed Davis will play in the game, you can be sure he’ll be fired up and have the rest of the Spartan linebackers ready to knock down a brick wall. Can you expect the Spartans offense to come up big? There is no way to say yes to this, but you can expect the Spartans to play defense and in the end they find a way to slow down the Irish and scrap out a 21-20 win over the Irish on the road to end a three game losing streak to the Irish.
