Ohio junior linebacker holds interest in Michigan State with a former teammate on campus and a close friend a pledge.

Class of 2018 linebacker Brian Asamoah is starting to pick up some recruiting steam with three early offers. One program AsaMoah is hoping to hear more from is the Michigan State Spartans. We caught up with the rising junior about the reasons why the Spartans are a program of high interest.

With one friend already on campus and another set to arrive next summer, Columbus (Ohio) DeSales junior linebacker Brian Asamoah knows Michigan State Spartan could be a place he’d fit right in at.

“I’ve been offered as a running back by Eastern Kentucky, but at linebacker by Pittsburgh and Iowa State,” said Asamoah.  “I have interest in all schools right now, but it would be nice to have Michigan State because I’ve already built a great relationship with Austin Andrews the two years I was with him here at St. Francis DeSales.

“I went up to Michigan State in the spring for the spring game with him and was impressed.  They have a beautiful stadium and the fans are really in to it.  I know it was only a spring game, so I can only imagine what it would be like for a real game.  Also, the facilities are really nice and the coaches are really awesome and treat you like family.”

For Asamoah the relationships go deeper than a former schoolmate and could be a factor if the Spartans end up getting involved in his recruitment.

“I’ve not had a lot of contact with Michigan State yet,” he stressed.  “But Coach (Curtis) Blackwell is the coach I’m most familiar with.

“It would be amazing to earn an offer from Michigan State and knowing Austin and my good friend Dominique Long is also going to be there is important because having good relationships with people already there would be important.”

Asamoah is hopeful of getting up to East Lansing for a game this season and knows the Spartans might be looking to have him camp and earn an offer.
