2017 defensive end Robert Porcher IV looking at Michigan State
Michigan State (MSU) is looking to add a couple more defensive linemen in their 2017 recruiting class and is looking to Florida for a familiar name. Robert Porcher III was a three-time Pro-Bowler for Detroit Lions, and his son, Robert Porcher IV, is looking at Michigan State. The three-star defensive end from Orlando holds an offer from MSU and interested in visiting in January.
Porcher IV was previously committed to the University of Nebraska, but reopened his recruitment to find a school closer to home.
Porcher IV hasn’t yet narrowed down a top group of schools after his de-commitment. He told Spartan Nation, “I don't really have any main schools right now. I just don't want to be far like where Nebraska is.” Nebraska is a long distance away from Florida and so is Michigan but, at MSU, Porcher IV would not have to worry about being far away from family. “That's home for me! That's a direct flight,” he exclaimed.
As far as January visits go, Porcher IV has one planned already. “I will visit Virginia Tech on January 21st,” he stated. A MSU visit is possible, “Yeah, probably - I just have to talk it over with my dad.”
Michigan State is also recruiting Porcher IV’s teammate and close friend, three-star outside linebacker Nick Smith. At Michigan State, the duo would have a chance to continue to play together, and that is something that appeals to Porcher IV. “Yes, me an him have known each other for fifteen years and we are always together. So yes, we both would like that!” Smith is planning to officially visit Michigan State in January.
Porcher IV updated Spartan Nation with his current height and weight, “I am 6’3 and 250 lbs.” He says the strengths of his game are “my get off, using my arm length, and my hand technique.”
Scout ranks Robert Porcher IV a three-star, and the 78th ranked defensive end in the nation. Spartan Nation will be sure to stay in touch with Porcher IV leading up to Signing Day.
