2019 SF Romeo Weems has Tom Izzo's attention and Spartan Nation caught up with him about his next visit to East Lansing and new highlights!

New Haven’s 6’6 2019 standout Romeo Weems has a lot of time left in his high school career but he is already gaining plenty of interest from colleges. “Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State are the three schools that are recruiting me the most.” Weems told Spartan Nation.

He has been to all three for unofficially visits and is working on scheduling something soon to go back. “I have been talking with my mom about going to the Michigan State-Michigan game in January in East Lansing.” Weems said “Then I would probably go to a game at Michigan as well.”

Though just a sophomore Romeo is off to a very impressive start this season. Through his team’s first three games Weems is averaging 23.3 points, 14 rebounds 6 assists 3 steals and 2.8 blocks a game for 2-1 New Haven. “We have been playing ok” Weems said “But we just got to keep working and getting better.” Romeo couldn’t really think of any individual goals for this season that was different from the team’s goals. “To win a state championship.” Romeo said. “I just want to win.”

Besides being very talented Romeo is also a very hard worker and improved many parts of his game over the summer. “I really worked on my shooting and my ball handling.” Weems said. “My ball handling has gotten better but it isn’t where I want it to be just yet.”

Romeo has two and a half years left of high school but so far is enjoying the process of being recruited. “Yeah it’s fun.” Romeo said. While he is a long way away from cutting his list of schools or naming any favorites Romeo does know what he likes to hear from coaches when they are recruiting him to their college. “I like when coaches don’t just tell me all the things I do well.” Romeo said. “I like when they can tell me parts of my game that they see that I can work on, and the ways that they can help me do that in the future. “ Weems said. “I just want to be the best player I can become.”

There is no question that Romeo has a bright future ahead of him as he continues to work hard and gets good coaching at New Haven from Tedaro France. Next up for Romeo and New Haven is a Christmas tournament December 28th.
