Spartan Nation caught up with Cass Tech junior, 2018 four star DeAndre Square!

Cass Technical High School, in Detroit, Michigan, is home to some of the most highly recruited athletes in the nation on a yearly basis. Michigan State (MSU) has received commitments from Technicians in consecutive cycles (2016 and 2017), coming from four-stars Demetric Vance and Jordan Reid. The Spartans are looking to extend that streak in the class of 2018 in four-star athlete DeAndre Square.

DeAndre is a versatile athlete that can line up at both the linebacker and safety positions on defense. Cass Tech is coming off of a perfect season, in which they won the division one state title. “My junior season went well, but could have been better. I really don't care what I play in college as long as I’m playing, that is ok,” DeAndre commented on his season and what he would like to play at the next level. He was offered by MSU as an outside linebacker.

On the recruiting front, DeAndre is one of the most sought after recruits in the Midwest in his class. He has received offers from Michigan State, Wisconsin, LSU, and Kentucky among other schools. He hears from those four schools the most and says they recruit him the hardest. He offered his thoughts for each of the four schools, “MSU is my home town team and I loved the school growing up. For Wisconsin, I like the campus and how they played this year. LSU has a great program and a good defense. Kentucky intrigues me but I don’t know much about them.” DeAndre plans to visit schools during the spring but hasn’t decided which schools or when he will visit yet.

Michigan State has hosted DeAndre for a handful of visits over the last year, and has created a strong bond with the four-star recruit. “It is a good relationship that we are building upon,” he added. Cass Tech senior and MSU commit Jordan Reid has also been pulling for DeAndre to join forces with him at MSU. Jordan has been in DeAndre’s ear for some time now as he explained, “Jordan just says like it’s a good school and thinks i should come with him all the time.”

As far as a decision goes for DeAndre, he stated, ”Maybe some time next fall.”

Scout ranks DeAndre Square a four-star recruit, as well as the 199th overall player in the class of 2018, and the 13th best safety in the nation. Spartan Nation will follow DeAndre throughout the remainder of his recruitment and have plenty of updates for you!
