2018 four star Michael Dowell updates Spartan Nation on his recruitment
Four star athlete Michael Dowell, from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, is a top priority for the Michigan State (MSU) Spartans in the class of 2018. His older brothers, Andrew and David Dowell both play for the Spartans and provided key contributions to the defensive side of the ball this past season.
Michael Dowell played running back for the St. Edwards Eagles in his previous two seasons, but in his junior season, he branched out to defense. “My season went well. It was my first year playing on defense and that was cool. I think I need to continue working on my ball skills and being able to stay low in and out of breaks,” Michael described. He lined up at cornerback this season, adding “I would like to play cornerback at the next level.”
Aside from his offer from MSU, Michael holds offers from Pittsburg and Duke, among others. “The schools talking to me the most are Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt, Iowa, and Rutgers,” Michael stated. As far as visits go, Michael hasn’t decided which schools he will visit, but is planning visits in the spring.
Having two Spartan brothers seems to be an advantage on the side of MSU in Michael’s recruitment, but he wants to make sure he chooses a school that fits him best. “They (Andrew and David) just tell me MSU is an amazing. They will not have an impact on my recruitment. I will do what is best for me,” he concluded.
As far as a timetable for a decision goes, Michael stated, “I would like to commit before the summer ends this upcoming year.”
“Go Green!” Michael ended our discussion with.
Scout ranks Michael Dowell a four star recruit, the 209th ranked player in the nation, and the 16th ranked safety in the nation. Spartan Nation will stay in touch with Michael as he takes spring visits and progresses towards a decision.
