Belleville’s 6’7 2018 standout Gabe Brown has recently seen his recruitment pick up. This past week alone he was at Eastern Michigan Tuesday for their game against Central Michigan “I got to talk to the coaches before the game and it went well.” Brown said. Then he was at Michigan State Wednesday for their game against Rutgers “I got to go in to the locker room and talk to the coaches and really enjoyed.” On Thursday night Brown had his own game that MSU attended, as well as Toledo, Adrian and Spring Arbor.
Unfortunately for Brown Belleville lost to a talented Ann Arbor Skyline team 74-71. Brown finished with 16 points but wasn’t pleased with his overall game “Just my worst game ever.” Brown said. “I don’t know if it had anything to do with it (Knowing Michigan State was there watching) but I just couldn’t get the ball.”
Brown then continued his busy week going to the Michigan and Maryland game on Saturday. “It went well; I got to talk to both Coach Beilein and Coach Washington.” Gabe was just offered by Central Michigan this week as well joining DePaul, Oakland, Detroit, Toledo, Loyola Marymount, Kent State, UW Milwaukee and Southern Utah as the 9 schools that have offered Brown. Besides those schools Gabe has also been hearing from Butler, Xavier, UCF, and Kansas State.
Gabe is a great athlete and a talented scorer that shoots the ball well but he is still working hard to improve his game. “I’m working on my ball handling and my defense.” Gabe said. “Also on getting stronger, since I know I have to do that to be ready for the next level.”
While Gabe still has plenty of time before he has to make a decision he does know what he is looking for when picking a school. “The style of ball the play and having a good relationship with the coaches.” Brown said. “That will help me pick the best school that is the right fit for me and my family.”
For the meantime Gabe is focused on the rest of the season where he still has goals from himself and his team. “I want to get out of our district and our regional so we could have a chance to play at MSU (for the state semi finals and finals)” Brown said. “Personally I want to make first team all state before I graduate.”
Gabe does not have any time table right now on when he will choose a school and for now he is really enjoying the recruiting process. “I love it.” Brown said, “It’s a lot of fun.” Brown and his teammates next play this coming Tuesday against Ann Arbor Pioneer.
