Michigan State (MSU) is set to host a handful of 2017 recruits for official visits over the weekend who could make up the last few available spots in the Spartans’ 2017 class. One scheduled visitor, Ypsilanti, Michigan athlete Jahz Watts, is very familiar with MSU program. Spartan Nation caught up with Watts to preview his visit and discuss his recruitment.
Watts has been to Michigan State almost a dozen times. He explained his relationship, “I have been under recruitment by MSU for about a year and a half now and I've been communicating the most with Coach Samuel and Coach Blackwell. They've both done a great job with making feel very well fit with their culture by coming up on game visits.”
As of now, Watts does not hold an offer from Michigan State. However, he believes he is under consideration for an offer, saying “I have not been offered yet. They [the staff] invited me this week to come up and discuss an offer for either wide receiver or defensive back.” Also discussing his upcoming visit, he added, “I'm hoping to experience a family based atmosphere with high energy and a winning team attitude!”
Watts has been a fan of the Spartans for a long time. As his relationship with the coaches at MSU has progressed, he has figured out a few selling points that stand out to the most. “The coach interaction and the drive to win stands out to me the most. I can see they develop their players to be the best.”
Receiving an offer would be a great accomplishment for the currently unranked 6’2”, 181 pound all-conference athlete. “It would mean world because I know they would push me to be the best and I know I would give 100% to help us win.” Right now, Watts has an idea of how his Signing Day may go. “My top two are Ferris state and MSU but Ferris wants me to play QB and since signing day Is next week I pretty much focused on them,” he described.
Scout currently does not rate Jahz Watts. As always, stay tuned to Spartan Nation as we follow Watts’ official visit to Michigan State, as well as other remaining targets’ visits this weekend.
