The Michigan State (MSU) Spartans offered 2018 Hopewell, Virginia four-star running back Ronnie Walker on January 26th. His offer from MSU marks the 5’11, 190 pound shifty running back’s 10th offer. Walker’s other early offers include Duke, Virginia, Northwestern, Navy, Rutgers, and others. Spartan Nation caught up with Walker shortly after he received his offer.
“This offer means means a lot to me,” Walker said, “not only does Michigan State have an outstanding football program, but the academics are elite.” MSU is not a foreign team to Walker. In fact, he has been a fan of the program for a while. “I always watch Michigan state play. I especially pay attention to and enjoy watching their running game.”
One factor that stands out to Walker is the Spartans’ historic success at the running back position. Names like Javon Ringer, Edwin Baker, Le’Veon Bell, Jeremy Langford, and now LJ Scott are familiar to Walker. “Their production of NFL running backs says a lot to me,” he explained.
Ron Burton was in Virginia, scouting underclassmen on the Spartans’ radar. Walker spoke of his is visit with Coach Burton, saying, “Coach Burton came to visit my school yesterday and he told my coach my coach that he had something for me, that’s when they offered me.
Walker is looking forward to visiting schools in the winter in spring. “I absolutely want to visit [MSU]. I also want to see Duke, UVA , UNC, West Virginia, Navy, many other schools,” he commented.
It is early on in his recruitment but Walker, as he is only a junior, but he already has an idea of what he can bring to the school he ultimately ends up at. “I’m a team leader. I’m a versatile athlete who praises his lineman every time he gets in the end zone. I’m also a running back who runs the ball 110% each play,” said Ronnie Walker. “I’m very vicious and am a player who shows great sportsmanship, and will always get the job done,” he added.
Scout rates Ronnie Walker a four-star running back. He is slated as the 163rd recruit in the nation, the 13th running back in the nation, as well as the 5th athlete in Virginia. Sparta Nation will continue to follow Walker as he checks out Michigan State and looks at other schools during the winter and spring.
