Non-Competitive Spartans Get Blown Out by Michigan 86-57!
Ann Arbor, MI
The Michigan State Spartans came into this game on a two game winning streak and a five game streak over Michigan, both got snapped. The Spartans were beat up and at times humiliated by their arch rival tonight 86-57.
The Spartans came out sloppy and it carried over the entire game. With an abysmal 21 turnovers the Spartans shot 48%, but they allowed the Wolverines to connect on 60% of their shots.
Spartan head coach Tom Izzo said of the drubbing, “I was very disappointed in the game of course. Our guys started out bad and it got worse. When it starts out bad it usually ends bad. Our freshman looked like a bunch of freshman against a bunch of juniors and seniors.”
The Spartans won the battle of the boards 26-22. Miles Bridges led the way for the Spartans with 15 points and five rebounds. Nick Ward added 13 points and seven rebounds and senior Eron Harris rounded out the Spartans who reached double digits with 10.
Michigan head coach John Beilein said, “Any time you beat a Tom Izzo coached team is a good thing for us. We just really played well over a really good team. Michigan State has a tremendously talented team, they are just young.”
Izzo added, “The turnovers are a joke and that should all fall on me. Don’t rip on them, it has been an ongoing thing all year and it hasn’t changed. I don’t blame our freshman and I don’t think they understood the intensity level and the turnovers are ridiculous.”
The Spartans return to action for their last seven regular season games on Saturday. They will be hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes at the friendly confines of the Breslin Center. That game tips off at 6PM and you can see that on BTN.
