Michigan State is "right there at the top!" for 2020 MD defensive linemen Coziah Izzard who holds offers from MSU and others

The 2018 recruiting class has just rolled around for the Spartans, but the staff is already looking beyond that class to the 2019 and 2020 classes as well. The staff has extended offers to five 2020 recruits (freshman in high school) so far. Most recently, an offer was extended to Elkridge, Maryland  6’4”, 232 pound defensive linemen, Coziah Izzard on January 24th. The offer from the Spartans marked Coziah’s fourth offer. He also holds offers from Maryland, Buffalo, East Carolina, and most recently Wake Forest. The Spartans caught up with the rising freshman to discuss his interest in the Spartans.

Coziah described what the offer from the Spartans means to him, saying, “It means a lot!! There have been a lot of great defensive lineman that have come from there.” As one of the top 2020 defensive linemen recruits in the nation, receiving an offer early on for the Spartans will keep them in a good place in his recruitment for the long run. He sees beyond the football field, and knows the school as well. He explained, “I also appreciate that it's a very prestigious school!”

Coach Burton, the defensive line coach and regional recruiter for the Spartans extend an offer to Coziah on a visit to St. Vincent Pallotti High School to meet Coziah. He was offered as a defensive end and outside linebacker combination. Coziah lines ups at both positions for his team and would be an excellent addition for any team in the nation at either position.

As far as where Michigan State sits right now, very early in his recruitment, Coziah said, “Michigan State is right there at the top!” Other than his interest from Michigan State, he discussed what other schools are in his ear. “I'm only a freshman, so no school is really pressing that hard, but the home town school is right around the corner so I would say Maryland.”

Scout has yet to rank the class of 2020, but when it is ranked, Coziah Izzard figures to be up at the top. His size and athleticism makes him a valuable target and separates him from the competitors. He put together an impressive freshman season, and has set himself up for a successful high school career, filled with many offer. Spartan Nation will keep in touch with Coziah as he prepares to the spring visits, including a likely visit to East Lansing.
