19 OH S Visited MSU Today “Top of my list”
Michigan State is in a great spot with Ohio 2019 hard hitting safety Sam Jackson!
As Michigan State opened spring practice today recruits from around the nation poured into East Lansing. Spartan Nation spoke with a top safety from Troy, Ohio as he was driving home just moments ago and he still “Loves” Michigan State.
Jackson told Spartan Nation, “I am talking to the coaches as a defensive back. I like to hit and that is my kind of game and theirs.”
This was not the first time on campus for Jackson, and he loved it even more the second time. “I went to a camp last year as a running back but I got to tour and talk to Coach Dantonio today and Coach Barnett and it was a great visit all around. Just awesome. I loved it.”
He went on to add, “It was awesome. The players and coaches were flying around and I loved the intensity and the atmosphere there is awesome. I really liked the pace and the competition is great. It is the kind of school I want to be at and I loved every minute of it today.
So does being from Ohio mean he is a Buckeye by nature? Oh yea for sure I was. That is what we grew up watching. But things change for me. Since Chris Frey was recruited and went to Michigan State I saw him as a role model and want to be like him. He got to go and play at Michigan State and hopefully I can go do the same thing again someday.”
So what does the future hold for the punishing hitter from Ohio and the Spartans? He said, “Coach Barnett told me that he would come down this spring to my high school and watch me do drills and we can talk more then.” He also added, “I will be attending a camp in June for Michigan State and I will also be at the at spring game.”
So what other schools are on the radar for Jackson? “I have received camp invites from Rutgers and Toledo.” He said specifically of fellow Big Ten school Rutgers that, “Rutgers is a nice school and I went to the Michigan State vs Rutgers game on an invites and that was really awesome. I was there as a guest of Michigan State so me and my dad went, but I was impressed.”
He also said of Toledo that, “Toledo is a real nice school. I haven’t been to camps and I am hoping for an incited to come down and visit and see practice and camp.”
So what stood out to Jackson about Michigan State head man Mark Dantonio? “I think he is a real competitive coach and he is an awesome guy. He is very intelligent and he knows the game. You want a coach that knows the game and is intelligent like he is and he really cares about the team.”
As we ended our call Jackson added one big caveat when he said, “Michigan State is at the top of my list.” The Spartans have a need at safety for 2019 and they like him as well. Keep it tuned to Spartan Nation for the latest on Jackson and the 2019 class.
