2018 MI ATH Jaylan Franklin was "at a loss of words" when he was offered by Mark Dantonio and Michigan State

Not often are 6’4”, 200 pound recruits labeled “athletes”. Using they're dubbed as wide receivers or safeties, but Oscar A. Carlson High (Mich.) 2018 three-star Jaylan Franklin is truly an athlete. He can line up at nearly every position on the football field and perform just as well. Jaylan was offered as an outside linebacker and defense end, with potential to flip to offense, by Michigan State University during his visit on Sunday, and the offer left Jaylan at a loss of words. Spartan Nation caught up with Jaylan shortly after his offer to discuss what was going through his head.

Jaylan has become very familiar with the Spartans’ program over the past few years, growing up a Michigan State fan. Receiving an offer from Michigan State was a very emotional experience for the three-star athlete, and even dreaming of the offer couldn't compare to the real deal. “Coach Mark Dantonio pulled my mom and me over during practice and told me he was offering me,” said Jaylan, “He said it had been a long recruitment of me and he wants me to go to Michigan State.”

Hearing those words was a roller coaster of emotion for Jaylan. His dream finally came true. “I was at a loss for words and my mom and I broke down. It was all so surreal.”

Jaylan is no new face around the Duffy Daugherty building at Michigan State. After visiting one place so many times, there is nothing new to see for the visitor, but that was not the case for Jaylan this time around. “My visit was great! I saw the new locker room for the first time! I've been up almost 20 times so not many things are new but the game was awesome!”

Jaylan projects to be one of the state’s top 2018 recruits when its all said and done. Now, on top of his Michigan State offer, Jaylan holds over a dozen other offers including Minnesota, Kentucky, Pittsburg, and others. As the Spartans coaching staff are constantly praised for identifying talent before others, the same applies to Jaylan, even though they are only his most recent offer. “MSU was the first school who started recruiting me and I've been waiting for this one for a long time which made it so important. They’ve been my number one forever,” Jaylan commented. Jaylan can bring a lot to the Spartans offense or defense. “Dave warner is my primary recruiter! He likes my the factor of my unlimited potential and my speed and size combination,” he said.

Michigan State may be Jaylan’s top choice as of now, but having an offer does not necessarily mean his recruitment is nearing the end. “I’m still going through the process and and plan on seeing other places before making up my mind,” he explained.

Jaylan Franklin is rated a three-star athlete by Scout. Spartan Nation will continue to stay up to date with Jaylan as he visits other schools and remains in contact with the Spartans.
