Meechi Harris is currently unranked by Scout. He runs a sub 4.40 forty yard dash. He had 41 receptions for 663 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also scored an additional five touchdowns from kick and punt returns. The unranked recruit holds offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, West Virginia, and a host of other MAC schools, but while visiting Michigan State yesterday, he received an offer from the Spartans; one he had been dreaming of for a long time.
The 6’1”, 188 pound wide receiver wears number one for Xenia high school in Xenia, Ohio. He is the fastest player on the field no matter who Harris is facing. The electric standout made it up to Michigan State on Sunday for their Spartan Elite recruiting event, just hoping to meet the coaches and become acquitted with East Lansing. Little did he know an offer was on the way. “Coach Dantonio and I were there watching a spring practice and he came up we talked for a little than he just said that I have an offer,” Harris spoke of how he received his offer. Although the offer was a shock to Harris, just talking with Coach Mark Dantonio alone was an honor. “I just couldn't believe I was actually talking to Coach Dantonio face to face!”
Harris’ trip to Michigan State was an eye opener. “It was great ! I really enjoyed being able to watch practice and see how they do what they do.” Outside of being offered, one aspect of his visit stood out, “I also enjoyed the basketball game,” he explained.
Coach Harlon Barnett is Harris’ primary recruiter. Coach Barnett is a big fan of speed when it comes to the skill position players he recruits, and Harris is no outlier. “He says he likes my speed and athleticism,” he said, “Coach also likes how I can catch and return kicks as well!”
Harris holds just over a dozen offers. His offer from Michigan State, however, out does all his other offers at the time. “All the schools that have offered all showed love but Michigan State showed me a certain kind of love and respect to my family that I hadn't seen before.” Michigan State is in very good standing in Harris’ recruitment, thus far.
Scout has yet to rank Meechi Harris, however he has been one of the hottest names of the winter recruiting period. His speed and kick and punt returns are two key reasons why the Spartans extended an offer, and can compare with any athlete in the nation. Spartan Nation will keep tabs with Harris as he progresses his relationship with the Spartans and inches closer to a decision.
