Mark Dantonio lands a 2017 preferred walk on in kicker Jack McKenna from Walled Lake.
With the 2017 recruiting class signed on the first day of February, Mark Dantonio landed what could be the final player for the class. He secured a commitment from the best kicker in the state of Michigan for this past 2016 season in kicker Jack McKenna from Walled Lake.
McKenna’s resume looks like a virtual royalty of performance as he is the reigning All State kicker. He also holds the prestigious honor of being All North and All Division and All Conference and playing in the East West game.
McKenna told me moments ago after leaving MSU that, “I grew in Walled Lake a Michigan State fan and I have loved the school since I was little.”
He told Spartan Nation how the Spartans plan to use him. ”Mainly kickoffs, just really kickoffs is what we are looking at and trying to earn a spot on the team. They talked about a red shirt, but they also talked about me competing right way.”
Dantonio likes to use a separate kicker, place kicker and punter. That bodes well for the highly talented McKenna.

The Walled Lake star told us about the moment he committed moments ago. “Coach Dantonio offered the preferred walk on and I told him I would love to be here. He welcomed me to the family.”
Dantonio has a long and storied history of rewarding his successful walk on players with scholarships. For McKenna who could have gone to a lot of schools and got a scholarship, that makes his future very promising.
