Currently, Michigan State does not hold a commitment from a running back in the 2018 recruiting class. Johnny Adams is a junior at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 5’11”, 185 pound shifty running back is hearing from Michigan State and made it up for an unofficial visit this past weekend for the Spartan Elite recruiting event. Spartan Nation caught up with Johnny, a three-star recruit, to go over his visit and talk about is recruitment.
Johnny has visited Michigan State once before. This time around, he was able to experience much more of the University than on his previous visit. “I got a full tour and was able to see everything. It was cool because on my first visit, I didn't really get to see the facilities because I was talking to all the coaches,” Johnny commented on his recent visit. He also went on to add, It went really well and I enjoyed talking to the coaching staff and just being on campus.”
Johnny visited with a few of his teammates at Ben Davis.
Relationships are important in every recruitment. As a player who is under heavy consideration for an offer, it is crucial for Johnny to remain in touch with the coaches at Michigan State. “I'd say we have a pretty good relationship,” said Johnny, “the coach I speak with the most is Dave Warner.”
Currently, Johnny holds six offers and is receiving interest from many other schools in the midwest. “I hear a lot from Ball state, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Toledo, Northwestern, Illinois, Louisville, Syracuse, Iowa, Purdue, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Indiana as well,” he said. He has been busy on the recruiting trail this spring, visiting both Indiana and Michigan State and planning more as well. “I plan on going to Iowa and Ball State.” Although he has interest in all these schools, Johnny knows the impact an offer from the Spartans would have on his recruitment. “An offer from Michigan State would me a lot to me. They are one the top schools on my list and I would greatly consider it,” he described.
Aside from his busy recruitment, Johnny is focused on improving his game, as his senior season approaches. “My junior season went okay in my eyes. It could've been way better. My catching ability as well as my ability to run routes have improved by a lot. But I could still work on my blocking, tweak my running game, and watch more film than already do.”
Johnny Adams is rated a three-star recruit by Scout. Spartan Nation will continue to stay in touch with Johnny as he visits other schools interested him, including a possible return visit to Michigan State.
