The Michigan State Spartans concluded the regular season of their 2016-2017 college basketball campaign today with a 63-60 loss to the Maryland Terrapins. With the loss the Spartans fall to 18-13 (10-8).
Nick Ward was a warrior tonight nailing 22 points and adding 16 rebounds. Fellow freshman Miles Bridges was also a star adding 18 points and eight rebounds. They were the only Spartans in double digits.
Michigan State shot a disappointing 37% while the Terps hit 42%. MSU won the battel of the boards 37-33 and the Spartans had a refreshingly low eight turnovers. MSU had won in several statistical wins, but in March those don’t count. This was a road loss in the Big Ten with a lot on the line.
The Spartans return to action Thursday of next week at the Big Ten Tournament. The Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament makes its first visit to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., on March 8-12, 2017. With this win the Spartans earned a Wednesday first round bye.
