At 6-foot-7 and weighing 230 pounds, Brevyn Spann-Ford is built to play at the next level. There is no question that he is as physically gifted as they come, the question is what position he will have the most impact at. Although he mainly plays wide receiver at St. Cloud Technical High School, Spann-Ford fits the mold of a matchup nightmare with his combination of size and speed at the tight end position. He could even find himself playing somewhere on the defensive or offensive line if he can bulk up some. No matter what, he sees himself playing in college.
“I think my body can fit in a lot of spots,” Spann-Ford told Spartan Nation. Spartan Nation Publisher Hondo S. Carpenter, Sr. spend significant time with Spann-Ford at The Opening in Chicago yesterday. Carpenter will be posting video and analysis of his game later this week.
The St. Cloud, Minn. native has received looks from Iowa State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, West Virginia, Wyoming, Northern Iowa and Michigan State.
However, his home town university of Minnesota might be the favorites to land the 3-star 2018 recruit. Although there is a new coaching regime with P.J. Fleck coming in, Spann-Ford feels very familiar with the program.
“I really like the Gophers,” Spann-Ford told Spartan Nation. “I’ve been to a lot of games and I am familiar with them.”
He has had the chance to meet with Fleck and said he enjoyed Fleck’s motivational atmosphere and entertaining personality.
However, that does not mean the Spartans are out of the mix yet. Spann-Ford visited East Lansing for the first time on April 1 for the annual Green-White spring game. He was excited for the experience.
Spann-Ford popped up on Michigan State’s radar when quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator Brad Salem was impressed by his game tape on Twitter. Salem then contacted him through the social media platform and the two have been in touch ever since. Now, Michigan State is on his radar.
“[Salem] likes my film and the way I use my body for how big I am,” Spann-Ford told Spartan Nation. “There are a lot of different ways I can get the ball.”
Spann-Ford is the type of football player that is always looking to improve upon his craft. Although he has exceptionally quick feet for his size, his goal is to get even faster for the upcoming camps.
“I’ve actually been working on getting a lot faster for these camps,” Spann-Ford told Spartan Nation. “I want to hone my craft.”
Although it might be tough to lure Spann-Ford away from Minnesota, Michigan State is still in the running.
“I’d definitely consider Michigan State,” Spann-Ford told Spartan Nation. He definitely is on the Spartans radar and with that spend size, he can be a very deadly weapon.
