Yesterday, Michigan State (MSU) extended a scholarship offers to one of the best linebackers in the Midwest. Considered the fifth best inside linebacker in the Midwest, Powell, Ohio Edward Warinner’s offer from Michigan State came as a very impactful event on his recruitment. Spartan Nation caught up with the three-star recruit to discuss where MSU stands in his recruitment.
On Saturday, Edward was able to make it up to East Lansing to take an unofficial visit for a spring practice. He spoke of his visit, “I really enjoyed my visit, I got to sit in for the linebacker meetings and after, I watched practice. Everything was good!”
Not only did Edward enjoy a very good visit, but he received some very good news during his time at MSU. “Coach Dantonio offered me at practice,” he said, “he had me meet him at midfield during a transition period and extended a scholarship offer to me.” Receiving an offer from MSU came as a big moment for the 6’1”, 220 pound linebacker. “I was really happy. MSU is a huge offer for any Ohio kid and it was really satisfying to earn an offer!”
One interesting note about Edward, is his family’s connection to MSU. His father, now the offensive line coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, was the linebackers coach for the Spartans for the 1985-1986 season. His mother is also a Spartan alumni. “People don’t know that my mom and most of her family are Spartan graduates and she met my dad at the football office way back in the 80’s,” said Edward, “MSU is kind of the family school to me. They have great people throughout the university.”
Besides his MSU offer, Edward also holds offers from a host of schools, including West Virginia Rutgers, Cincinnati, and others. After having received an offer from the Spartans, he is ready to speed up his recruitment. “Well MSU is right at the top ,so now I’ve got to take a couple more visits to schools. After that, I’m going to decide.”
Being an Ohio recruit, an offer from Ohio State is always something to keep an eye out for. However, Spartan fans may not have to worry about going head-to-head with the Buckeyes in this recruitment. “I do not talk to Ohio State at all, so I’m not expecting an offer from them.”
Additionally, Spartan fans should keep a close eye on Edward’s recruitment. As mentioned earlier, his recruitment should be coming to a conclusion sooner rather than later. “My decision will be soon, that is all I know,” Warinner explained.
Edward Warinner is rated a three-star recruit by Scout. His talents stretch beyond the football field. He is constantly regarded as a great leader and an even better person in general. The Spartans are looking to secure commitments from a couple linebackers in the class of 2018, and Edward could be one of them. Stay tuned for the latest recruiting info.
