The Michigan State (MSU) Spartans football team stresses family. Family in the sense of a brotherhood, and family by blood. In 2018 four-star defensive back Michael Dowell’s case, he already feels apart of the Spartan family, with both of his older brothers primed to start on the Spartan defense this upcoming season. This past weekend, Michael made the routine trip from Lakewood, Ohio to East Lansing, Michigan to watch his brothers play in the Spring Game. Spartan Nation caught up with the 6’1”, 185 pound defensive back to discuss his visit and where the Spartans stand in his recruitment.
Michael arrived in East Lansing on Friday night. He was anxious to see his brothers Andrew and David perform well the next day, all while taking in the atmosphere at the school that could potentially be his landing destination. “I loved every second of my visit,” Michael explained. Seeing both Andrew and David on the field at the same time was a new sight for the highly touted recruit.” They look pretty good,” he expanded about his brothers’ performances.
As the brother of two Spartans, Michael is nearly guaranteed to feel pressure to team up with them. “They [Andrew and David] just tell me MSU is an amazing place.” They will not have an impact on my recruitment. I will do what is best for me,” he concluded.
On Friday, Michael visited another school that has been expressing a bit of interest, Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have discussed a potential scholarship with the four-star defensive back. Michael described his visit to South Bend, “yeah it was cool!”
Although he knows that his decision will come down to his own preference, Michael has a pretty good idea of where MSU stands in his recruitment. “Michigan State is truly family,” he explained to Spartan Nation.
Scout rates Michael Dowell a four-star defensive back and the second ranked safety in the Midwest. The Spartans are in a very good standing with Michael, and Spartan Nation will continue to update his recruitment.
