Michigan State is making a big push for linebackers in the 2018 class and Dallas Gant tell us he's, "Always been a fan..."

Dallas Gant, a highly sought after 2018 4-star linebacker from St. Johns Jesuit high school in Ohio has long considered Michigan State to be in his Top 5 and now that he is closing in on making his decision, the Spartans remain firmly planted in his top 5.

Earlier this month, Gant listed his updated Top 5 on his Twitter account, listing Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State along with the Spartans.

Gant cited his relationships with the Michigan State coaching staff and the fact he has been a fan of the football team as reasons why he is drawn to the Spartans.  Gant spoke to Spartan Nation about Michigan State.

“Michigan State’s been there the longest out of my top five,” he said. “The coaches have always shown a lot of love, it’s great down there in East Lansing, I always have a great time. I have a good relationship with coach Tressel and coach Dantonio and so they’ve always been in the mix for me. I always watched them when I was a kid and always wanted to be a Spartan.”

Growing up a fan of Michigan State likely doesn’t hurt the Spartans’ chances of landing a commitment of Gant, who noted that he still remains a fan of the Green and White and admires Michigan State’s style of play on both sides of the ball.

“I always watch them, they’re probably still my favorite team, I probably still watch them the most in college football,” he said. “I just like the way they play, they play hard and they play fast, great defense. I love watching the quarterback play and the running back play.”

With the recruiting process beginning to wind down for Gant, as he expects to make his college decision on his birthday, May 16th, the junior said that while he doesn’t have a definitive date in place, he anticipates that he will be making another trip to East Lansing in the near future.

“Not yet, but I’ll probably get there pretty soon,” he said. “I haven’t been there in a while.”

After making his commitment, Gant said he doesn’t anticipate reopening his recruitment, but doesn’t rule out taking additional visits.

“I’ll probably be done done after that,” he said. “I might take a couple here and there just to take a couple and to make sure, but other than that, I’ll probably be done.”

Scout rates Gant as a 4-star linebacker and the No. 8 rated outside linebacker in the country.  Keep it tuned to Spartan Nation for the latest information on this talented young man.
