18 OH S & brother of two current Spartans (Andrew & David) Michael Dowell talks Michigan State and recruiting process with us!

There are few recruits in the entire country who have stronger ties to a school than Michael Dowell’s ties to Michigan State, but that won’t stop the 2018 4-star safety from Ohio from taking his time to make a decision.

Dowell’s brothers, Andrew and David, are current members of the Michigan State Football team and both are competing for starting roles on the Spartan defense in 2017. Andrew is a junior safety for the Spartans and David is a sophomore linebacker.

But despite his strong ties to the Spartans, Dowell intends to take his time before making his college decision, but also said he does plan to make his commitment this summer.  Spartan Nation recently caught up with the young man.

“Coach Dantonio comes off as a true, honest man,” he said. “From what my brothers told me, everything seems real fun there and real good. Michigan State’s a great program, but I just don’t want to rush into any decisions and regret something, so I’m just going to take my time.”

Dowell comes from a tight-knit family, which could play a factor when it comes to his college decision as the St. Edwards High School safety will have the opportunity to alongside of both of his brothers at the college level if he chooses the Spartans.

As he prepares for his senior season in the high school ranks, Dowell said that both of his brothers have offered him advice every step of the way when it comes to taking part in football camps or games and practices.

“Our family is real close and they always just give me little tips and what not,” he said. “If it’s out here at a combine and I don’t run a good 40 (yard dash) or I’m playing in a game and running down on kickoffs, they’re always giving me good tips and good feedback on how they prepare and mentally get ready for the games. They’re my two biggest role models, so I just keep listening to them and hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.”

Dowell noted that he’s enjoyed seeing his brothers have success in East Lansing so far in their college careers and also said that he had time to speak with Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio when he visited for the Spring Game.

“It’s real exciting to see them doing so well,” he said. “Last week, we went up to the spring game, it was a very good visit. I talked to coach Dantonio, I talked to my position coach and every time I get up there, I like the campus more and more. It’s really good that they’re playing there and they tell me all the time how much they like it.”

Scout rates Dowell as a 4-star recruit and the top safety in the 2018 class from the state of Ohio.  Stay tuned to Spartan Nation for the latest on the youngest Dowell!
