One of the best linebackers in the nation for the 2018 class is from Ohio and Xavier Peters talks Michigan State with Spartan Nation!

While he has yet to take visit East Lansing, linebacker Xavier Peters has Michigan State on his radar and hopes to visit the Spartans this summer. The 2018 4-star linebacker out of Lakota West High School in Ohio is regarded as the top linebacker in Ohio’s 2018 class and has had his eye on Michigan State since landing an offer back on March 21st.

Peters said that since receiving his Michigan State offer, he’s done his homework on the Spartans and is a fan of what the campus has to offer, both athletically and academically, and looks forward to visiting in the future.  Spartan Nation recently caught up with him to talk about the Spartans with him.

“I looked up their facility on YouTube and their academic facility looks real nice up there,” he said. “I will be visiting sometime in the summer, so I’m going to get that taken care of with my parents. I just can’t wait to visit, that school, just that environment looks real, real nice, so I’m very excited to visit.”

Like many high school athletes, Peters not only has his eyes set on the college ranks, but also has aspirations to play in the National Football League one day and he has the pedigree to perhaps take that step one day. Peters comes from a family that is very accomplished athletically in football and track and field, and Peters’ cousin, Jerry Gates, is a former Bowling Green football star.

When it comes to his recruitment, Peters said that he does pay attention to the track record of colleges when it comes to sending players to the next level.

“I look at stuff like that,” he said. “Like Michigan State, that’s a good, known school that has put people in the draft and has put people in the league, so I would feel very confident going to that school and making progress in the future.”

While Peters holds 21 offers already, the 6-foot-4, 215 pound linebacker said that he doesn’t have a timetable for a commitment.

“I’m not really thinking (about it) right now, I’m just going through the process” he said. “It’s like my coach said, your life is like a microscope, so everything is getting watched. I’ve got to take everything slow and look through everything and that’s just part of the process, so that’s basically what I’m doing.

Peters is rated as a 4-star recruit by Scout and is ranked as the No. 6 inside linebacker in the country.  Keep it tuned to Spartan Nation on the latest from Peters and the Spartans!
