Spartan Nation caught up with 3 of the top QB recruits for the Class of 2019 at the Under Armour All American Camp in Chicago!

Michigan State already has their quarterback priorities in order for the next two years – Rocky Lombardi is on board for 2017 and Theo Day joins on in 2018.  With that being said, the recruiting job is NEVER complete when it comes to college football.

Spartan Nation was able to catch up with three of the top QB prospects for the recruiting Class of 2019 this week at the 2017 Under Armour All American Camp in Chicago – Dwan Mathis (Oak Park, MI), Max Duggan (Council Bluffs, IA) and Nate Martens (St. Louis, MO).  Let’s give you some background on these standout high school quarterbacks.

Dwan Mathis is a 6’5”, 200-pound sophomore from Oak Park High School in Oak Park, MI.  He verbally committed to Iowa State on February 12th of this year, but his recruitment is still going (and heating up considerably).  Prior to his verbal commitment to the Cyclones back in February, he had offers from five other schools – Cincinnati, Kentucky, Akron, Central Michigan and Toledo.  He’s also drawn consistent interest from Michigan State, along with Michigan, North Carolina and Florida State.

Mathis said he was recently visited at school by Spartans Quarterbacks Coach, Brad Salem.  He explained that he’s known Salem for a while because the Spartans have been scouting him since he was in 8th grade, which is when he made his first trip to East Lansing.

Max Duggan is a 6’1”, 176-pound sophomore hailing from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, IA.  As of now, he has three scholarship offers, two from the Big Ten and one from the Big 12 – Iowa, Minnesota and Iowa State.  He’s also fielded considerable interest from Michigan State.

Duggan runs a fairly quick 40-yard dash – his verified time is 4.76 seconds, which is usually somewhere between a mobile quarterback and a QB that is mostly a pocket passer.

Nate Martens, a sophomore out of De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis, MO, is 6’3” and 210 pounds.  He already has one scholarship offer from Syracuse, and interest from a handful of other big name schools – Michigan State, Northwestern, Maryland and Iowa out of the Big Ten, Iowa State in the Big 12, and even Dartmouth from the Ivy League.

Martens has already camped at both Iowa and Northwestern and says he would optimally like to camp at Michigan State sometime this summer.

We will keep an eye on each of these quarterbacks as the days and weeks go by and we get a little closer to their decisions.  Should any of them make a visit to East Lansing in the near future, you will, of course, hear about that, as well.  If you’d like to take a listen to any of their interviews from the Under Armour All American Camp in Chicago, click on the links below.
