Michigan State offered a Tennessee commitment in the class of 2018 recruiting class last week, Jashaun Corbin. He verbally committed to the Volunteers on April 21st but has had other schools begin to recruit him ever harder since then. His offer from the Spartans on May fifth served as a monumental step in his recruitment, as a childhood favorite offered the Melbourne, Florida three- star running back. Spartan Nation caught up with the speedy junior running back to discuss where the Spartans sit in his recruitment.
Corbin, who dissected defenses for over 1,600 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns in 2016, possesses a gaudy offer sheet featuring the likes of Notre Dame, Florida
State, Florida, USC, Michigan, LSU and Oregon.
“Yeah there's a bunch of schools still trying to get me to flip, Michigan State has really been pressing hard,” Corbin told Spartan Nation shortly after receiving his offer from the Spartans.
Over the weekend, Corbin received the best news regarding his recruitment in a while.
“Saturday and coach Staten called me on the phone. He said my film really sticks out, he only watched a couple clips and was really impressed. Coach says I'm versatile and can basically do anything they need.”
Although Corbin is still committed to Tennessee, he cannot help but picture himself in the Spartans’ high-end rushing game. “I would fit perfectly,” Corbin said, “it's the type of offense that can use my abilities perfectly.” He has observed the production of elite running backs such as Javon Ringer, Le’Veon Bell, Jeremy Langford, and LJ Scott. “I could see myself as the next great Spartan running back,” he added.
As for what he has to say about Michigan State’s appeal, Corbin stated, “Michigan State is coming after me hard! They're one of the top programs in the country! That send guys to league year after year. And the team is coached by one the best in the nation, Coach Dantonio! It’s also big that they have a tradition of winning.”
The 6’, 193 pound do-it-all running back has some good news for Spartan fans. “I’ll most likely visit during the summer! I hope to see all the coaches and just the school campus life and all the scenery that comes with it.”
“I also want to see if I'm a priority for them,” he added.
Scout rates Joshaun Corbin a three-star recruit and the 32nd ranked at his position. As he holds nearly 40 scholarship offers, that positions him as the sixth most offered running back in his class. Spartan Nation will follow Corbin’s recruitment as the Spartans attempt to flip the star running back.
