The Michigan State Spartans hosted a top target at the wide receiver position for a visit recently. The 2018 recruit, Julian Major is a 6’3, 175 pound wide receiver from Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. He made the trip to East Lansing to check out one of his favorite teams growing up. Little did he know that he would be walking away with his ninth scholarship offer, coming from the Spartans. Spartan Nation spoke to Julian about where Michigan State stands in his recruitment, shortly after he received his offer.
The trip from Penn Hills to East Lansing is over 350 miles, and roughly a five to six hour drive each way. That did not stop Julian from visiting Michigan State University after being informed a scholarship offer in his name would be waiting at the University.
“I really enjoyed seeing an atmosphere that is greatly different than Pittsburgh. Learning about the different programs and coaches that Michigan State has to make me a better person and player was also great. My favorite part was the teaching session with Coach Samuel, the wide receivers coach.”
Julian even took to Twitter after his visit to exclaim his great time spent at Michigan State.
Speaking of the offer that was promised to Julian, he had some kind words to say about it. “It's a true blessing,” he said, “It is a fantastic great opportunity to compete at a high level, and playing for the Spartans is about as good as it gets.”
As Julian has now been offered, what exactly could he bring to the Michigan State Spartans offense? “I'm a versatile player, can beat the defender for a jump ball, or break them down with my speed on routes,” Julian spoke of what he could bring to Michigan State.
Based solely from his statement about it his offer, one can that perceive that the Spartans may her the frontrunner in his recruitment. Julian commented on where Michigan State stands in his recruitment, saying “They [Michigan State] are most definitely at the top of my list as of now. I think they might be unbeatable.”
It is great to be named as the leader by a recruit, but that does not go far until a commitment actually happens. However, Julian has a date in mind, in which he plans to commit. “July 11th is my birthday and is also when I plan to announce my decision.” Mark your calendars Spartan fans, that is only 62 days away. What bodes even better for Spartan fans is his future plans for visits. “I don't have any visits planned yet. I could possibly return to Michigan State in June for their camp. Nowhere else really,” Julian explained.
Scout rates Julian Major a three-star wide receiver. Michigan State fans will want to pay attention to this recruitment, as the Spartans have a significant shot at landing one of the top wide receivers in the east coast.
