Tom Izzo & the Michigan State Spartans handed out an offer to 18 SF Gabe Brown & talked with us about it today!

An offer from Michigan State was one that both Gabe Brown and his late father had been aiming for since Brown began to emerge as a top basketball recruit out of Belleville high school in Michigan.

And on Saturday, just a day before father’s day, Brown had finally landed the offer he’s long been waiting for as Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo officially offered the 6-foot-8, 2018 3-star small forward.

With he and his father having their sights set on a Michigan State offer throughout the recruiting process, Brown was obviously proud to have achieved the goal that both he and his father set for himself.

“It feels like I accomplished my goal,” Brown told Spartan Nation on Sunday. “That was the goal to get and I got it.”

Brown, who said he received the offer in a meeting with Izzo, added that he was excited to land the Michigan State offer, because it was also his first offer from a Big Ten program.

“It’s just amazing to get offered by a Big 10 school,” Brown told Spartan Nation on Sunday. “Especially from where I’m from and where I play, it’s amazing.”

Along with his Michigan State offer, Brown also holds offers from Oakland, Detroit Mercy and Rhode Island, along with a handful of other Division 1 schools.

While the Spartans were the first Big Ten school to extend an offer to Brown, the 6-foot-8 wing has heard plenty from several Big Ten schools, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue and Northwestern.

Brown said that he’s very fond of Michigan head coach John Bielein and has enjoyed his dealings throughout the recruiting process with the Wolverines.

“Coach Beilein is a real good coach, one of the best coaches in the Big Ten conference,” he said. “So to be recruited by him is amazing.”

Another school that has Brown’s attention is Northwestern and he said that he thinks his playing style could be a good fit with in head coach Chris Collins’ system in Evanston.

“Northwestern, they really like my game and how I can shoot and attack the basket,” he said. “I think I could fit in their system pretty well.”

While nothing is set in stone, Brown expects to announce his college decision at the end of the AAU season or at some point in August before the start of his senior year of high school.

Brown also added that he has plenty of interest in both Michigan and Michigan State, citing the fact that he’s taken visits to both campuses numerous times but said he really appreciated the family atmosphere that he has experienced in his time in East Lansing.

“I’ve been to Michigan and Michigan State over 20 times,” he said. “Really, Michigan State, they treat you like a family, it’s like a family bond. They won’t let you go anywhere by yourself, they really treat you like a son.”

Brown has also gotten the same family feeling from Izzo in his meetings with Michigan State’s head coach and also said that a family atmosphere is something that will play a big role in his college decision.

“Coach Izzo is one of the greatest coaches in the Big 10,” he said. “He showed me how I would play in their system and he he really tried to treat me as one of his own.”

Brown is the second standout athlete from Belleville to make news regarding Michigan State this weekend as his teammate on the basketball court, Davion Williams announced his commitment to the Spartans to play football on Saturday.

Brown said that while the Spartans are getting an outstanding athlete in his teammate and friend, he noted that Michigan State is also getting someone who has a great work ethic and an even better person with Williams.

“Davion is a very athletic player that can run and jump,” he said. “He’s real cool, not a bad kid. He just stays on the field and stays in the gym.”
