Hernia to sideline Ager six weeks

While the official prognosis for Ager is 6-8 weeks, it is noteworthy that Detroit Lions linebacker Kalimba Edwards and tight end Stephen Alexander were never more than 50% after attempting to play with similar injuries.

Michigan State guard Maurice Ager suffered what was diagnosed as a sports hernia and will be out for 6-8 weeks according to the Michigan State sports information office.

Ager was forced to withdraw from the 2004 USA Basketball World Championship for Young Men qualifiying team and underwent surgery on Friday, July 9th to repair the injury.

While the official prognosis for Ager is 6-8 weeks, it is noteworthy that Detroit Lions linebacker Kalimba Edwards was sidelined with a similar injury and by his own account was never more than 50% after attempting to play with the injury in 2003. Edwards had to undergo a second procedure to repair the injury as is now, in his words, 100%.

Another Lions player, newly acquired tight end Stephen Alexander suffered a similar two-year recuperation from a sports hernia.
