Spartans release basketball schedule

"Our non-conference schedule with the Maui Invitational, Georgia Tech and Boston College means that by the first week in December, we will be well tested against some of the top teams in the country. I think it's great exposure for our program and Michigan State University to be on national television as many times as we are." --MSU head basketball coach Tom Izzo.

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State this morning released its 2005-06 men's basketball schedule and in contrast to previous years, it looks to be a tad bit easier, but still no walk in the park.

MSU opens the season as a participant in a loaded field (Arizona, Boston College, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga and Kansas) at the annual Maui Classic. MSU will open against Chaminade. They could match up against either Gonzaga or Maryland should they advance.

Later, they head to the Big 10/ACC challenge to face off against powerhouse Georgia Tech in what should be one of the marquee matchups of the non conference schedule. They follow that with a tilt in Madison Square Garden in the annual "Jimmy V" classic against a solid Boston College team.

They open the conference schedule on the road against defending Big Ten champion Illinois on January 5th.
