Gardner newest member of Spartans 2006 class

"I like Michigan State and Louisville the best right now. They are both really good teams and they have a really established coaching staff. They've been showing me the most interest to date and they really act like they want me, a lot more than the others."

EAST LASNING - The Michigan State Spartans grabbed a commitment from Sam Gardner of Lexington Henry Clay(KY) after his visit to East Lansing this weekend.

Gardner told Rob Gidel of Scout.com "I will tell you that I like Michigan State and Louisville the best right now. They are both really good teams and they have a really established coaching staff. They've been showing me the most interest to date and they really act like they want me, a lot more than the others."

That persistance paid off for the Spartans when they were rewarded with the verbal commitment.

Last season, as a junior, Gardner caught 25 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns.

At 6-foot-5, 255-pounds, Gardner has the kind of big physical presence the Spartans were looking for. Gardner joins the Spartans as the 14th member of their 2006 class. Rob Gidel of Scout.com and Kevin Thomas of GoSpartans.net contributed to this story
